20th March 2018
Sidmouth Beach Cleans, Spring 2018
We’ve taken a look at the Sidmouth beach cleans taking place during the spring of 2018 - a wonderful opportunity for our guests to mix with locals and take part in this worthwhile activity.
31st March - Sea Shepherd UK Marine Debris Team
2 pm, RNLI Station
Previously arranged for earlier in March, this Sea Shepherd beach clean has been pushed back to the 31st due to the weather.
Registered charity Sea Shepherd was established in the US, but is now a non-profit marine wildlife conservation organisation. Sea Shepherd UK and their Marine Debris Team are undertaking beach cleans around the UK through the year, and the one in Sidmouth is a great event to get involved in. Meet at 2pm and all equipment will be provided.
14th April - Surfers Against Sewage Big Spring Clean
10 am, Sailing Club
Surfers Against Sewage are a registered charity also from the South West, with the single aim of protecting oceans and beaches, making them completely clean and safe.
They are hosting a grand event called the Big Spring Clean between the 7th and 15th April, the largest and most effective volunteer beach cleaning project in the UK.
The Sidmouth Big Spring Clean takes place on the 14th April, starting at 10am from the Sailing Club who will be selling teas, coffee and squash. Those looking to get involved are advised to bring your own gloves and litter pickers if possible but there will be some litter pickers available. Sign in at the club to be insured and remember to bring the rubbish back for a photoshoot at the end.
12th May - Sidmouth Sea Fest Beach Clean
10.30 am, Sea Fest on The Ham
As part of the brilliant yearly Sea Fest event in Sidmouth, a beach clean will also be happening on the 12th May.
Sidmouth Plastic Warriors are joining up with the day festival to promote awareness of the plastic being washed up or thrown onto the beach, and invite everyone to join them in blitzing the pebbles. Vouchers for a free tea, coffee or other drink will be given to helpers to claim from the bar. Meet and finish at the festival at The Ham in Sidmouth.
Have we missed any that you might know of, or are there any other events happening in or around Sidmouth to help the environment? Then we’d love to know via our Twitter or Facebook page, please let us know what’s taking place.
